Intro to Passes

What is a Pass?

A Pass is a digital version of a traditional paper hall pass or room block that authorizes a Student to be outside a particular classroom at a specific time. Just like the physical counterparts, Students need Passes for the time they are in the hallway. However, unlike a physical hall pass, a Student does not need to carry their mobile device or laptop with them in the hallways. Teachers and Administrators can see a live view of which Students are in the hallways and can search from the list, so every Student is accounted for digitally.

What does a Pass look like?

The header of a Pass shows the name of the Destination Room and the icon for it and a time for Expired or Future Passes.

In the body of a Pass, you can see the name of the Origin Room, Travel Type indicator, and the name of the Destination Room. A single arrow indicates a One Way Pass, meaning that the Student will end the Pass once getting to the Destination. A double arrow indicates a Round Trip Pass, meaning that the Student will end the pass once getting to the Destination and then back to the Origin.

In the footer, you will see either a countdown timer, "Pass Auto Starts", or the duration of an Expired Pass depending on the status of the Pass.

Active Passes

A currently live Pass, indicating the Student is in the hallway. Students see a live countdown of how much time they have left.

Once a Student reaches his or her intended location, he or she must click the End Pass button.

If the time on the Student's Pass runs out, the timer starts counting up and the End Pass button changes to red to indicate the Pass has run out of time.

  • Students should not end a Pass until they have reached their intended Room, even if the time has run out. Administrators and teachers should stress this to students, because the intention is to have an accurate account of which Students are currently in the hallways.
  • Pass Buffer Time: If a Pass is not ended within a certain amount of time, the Pass is automatically ended. Administrators can set the Pass Buffer time in school settings. The default time is 15 minutes.

Scheduled Passes

A Pass that is scheduled for a future time.

Students can only delete Scheduled Passes if they scheduled the Pass themselves or it was originally a Pass Request.

Learn more about creating a Scheduled Pass here or managing Pass Requests here.

Similar to the large view of the Pass, the Pass Tile has the title is the Destination, followed by the start date/time, ending with the travel type indicator.

Expired Passes

A Pass that shows when the Student was in the hallway.

Students can see which Passes they had in the past and see the duration of the Pass.
